LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today hailed the decision by Great Lakes Wind Turbine to locate its manufacturing plant in Monroe. The announcement was made during Governor Jennifer M. Granholm's State of the State address.
"This is fantastic news for Monroe," Ebli said. "This commitment to our community means that hundreds of our workers will be back on the job and able to make a good living for their families. It has always been my top priority to create good-paying jobs for our working families. I look forward to working with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and state and local officials to ensure that this project is a success, and to bring more jobs like this to Monroe."
The announcement was part of the Governor's pledge to revive Michigan's economy. The plant's location in Monroe shows how Michigan can utilize its strengths to capitalize on fast-growing fields such as renewable energy to create jobs and spur economic development.
"This is exactly what we need in order to diversify our economy," Ebli said. "Our workers already have the tools necessary to excel in the manufacturing of turbines and other renewable energy components. By focusing on the strengths of our state and the ability of our workers, we can become a world leader in renewable energy and other high tech industries, and create lasting economic success for generations to come."
