LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today wished hunters participating in the deer season large bounties, and reminded citizens of the opportunity to donate harvests with neighbors who are struggling during this holiday season.
"With Michigan's deer hunting season in full swing and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, this is a good time to remember that not everyone in our state has a bounty to share in," Ebli said. "We are working hard to turn Michigan's economy around and create jobs for our hard-working residents – unfortunately, there are seniors and families in our communities who are struggling. There are many ways we can support our neighbors in need, and one way that hunters can do this is by donating part of their harvest."
Ebli noted that the Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger organization has assembled a network of processors that help get wild game donations to local families in need. Processors who accept donated game can be found at the group's Web site, www.sportsmenagainsthunger.org.
"Hunting is not only a time-honored tradition and part of what makes our state special – it is an engine of economic growth," Ebli said. "The activity of deer season alone pumps millions of dollars into our state's economy. I'd like to thank hunters for doing so much to contribute to our communities."
