LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today applauded the awarding of nearly $4.6 million in tax credits from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) Board to the city of Monroe for two brownfield redevelopment projects.
"Securing these tax credits will provide a huge boost to our workers and our local economy," Ebli said. "Attracting new investments to communities across Michigan is going to play a major role in turning our economy around – especially in emerging fields like renewable energy. Creating jobs has always been my top priority as a lawmaker, and I'm pleased to see this investment in our workers and our community."
The first project, which will receive $4.4 million in credits, will construct a 103,000-square-foot facility at the Port of Monroe for VenTower Industries, which will build steel support towers for wind turbine electrical generators. The project is expected to create 150 new full-time jobs.
The second project will redevelop a site on the Monroe/Main Street corridor in order to house Eye Surgeons Associates. The project, which is expected to create 10 new full-time jobs, will take advantage of $193,233 to redevelop the property.
"These are the type of projects we need to get our state back on the right track," Ebli said. "Renovating old or abandoned properties into viable sites for new and emerging businesses will show growing companies that Michigan is open for business and provide even more good-paying jobs for our workers."
