LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today announced that a state Web site is now available to help the business community, tax preparers and residents understand the new Michigan Business Tax, which takes effect Jan. 1.
"By attracting emerging industries to Michigan, we will create jobs for our workers and jumpstart our economy," said Ebli, who sponsored one of the bills in the House package that slashes the Personal Property Tax for businesses. "The Michigan Business Tax represents a major victory for businesses in our state, and the new MBT Web site is just one more way we are working to bolster the business community's success."
The comprehensive Michigan Business Tax was signed into law earlier this year and replaces the much-criticized Single Business Tax, which expires Dec. 31. The state Department of Treasury's new Web site, www.michigan.gov/mbt, offers a fast-paced, 30-minute "Webinar."
"By detailing elements of the MBT and providing answers to frequently asked questions, this Web site is a powerful economic tool for industry representatives and tax preparers," Ebli said. "I encourage the community to use the special features of this Web site to become familiar with the MBT."
