LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today announced that the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) Michigan Works!, which services the Monroe area, has been awarded $605,467 from the state to provide training that will help workers upgrade their skills and boost local businesses' ability to compete in the global economy.
"It's important that our state channel workforce-training grants to organizations such as the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance Michigan Works! Agency," Ebli said. "By supporting local businesses, we will help jumpstart our economy and create much-needed jobs."
The new funding comes through the state Department of Labor & Economic Growth, which oversees the No Worker Left Behind program. This award from the No Worker Left Behind program provides customized training to help residents who are already employed upgrade their skills so they do not become at risk of losing their jobs.
"One of Michigan's most pressing issues is how to most effectively create, and retain, the good-paying jobs of the 21st century global economy here," Ebli said. "Michigan already has a workforce that is second to none, and this grant will help our workers continue to meet the demands of the rapidly changing marketplace."
