MONROE – State Representatives Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) and Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) earned high praise from local members of the education community today for their support of a budget plan that protects funding for Michigan schools.
"I thank Representatives Ebli and Angerer for their decision to continue investing in our children, ensuring that our schools have resources to provide our students with the education they need to succeed in the 21st Century global economy," said Donald A. Spencer, Superintendent of the Monroe County Intermediate School District. "Representatives Angerer and Ebli have supported a solution that will continue to benefit our schools – and our students – in the future."
The budget plan that was recently passed will give the state a long-term savings of hundreds of millions through cuts and reforms. The plan also contains provisions for a continuation budget.
"By investing in our children, we are investing in our state, and helping to attract jobs to our communities," Ebli said. "Businesses want to relocate where they know they can rely on a large pool of highly skilled workers. By protecting funding for our schools, we provide our students with the tools they need to land the good-paying jobs of tomorrow."
Ebli and Angerer were joined by local education leaders during a press conference today at Monroe High School.
"Ensuring that our children get the best education possible has always been a top priority for me," Angerer said. "I am grateful for the support of so many members of the education community. As the Legislature moves forward from this point, we will continue fighting to ensure that our schools have the resources and funding they need to prepare our children for the good-paying jobs of the future."
