LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today voted to increase funding for local schools to help ensure that our students will get the skills needed to be competitive in the 21st century global workforce.
"The road to improving our economy and creating jobs begins with improving our schools," Ebli said. "Providing our schools with the resources they need to ensure our children have the best education possible is vital to our success as a state. This plan will ensure both our students and our state excel in the 21st century global economy."
Ebli voted to increase per-pupil funding for local schools to give teachers the tools necessary to give our kids the skills they will need to compete, keep class sizes low and ensure that all students have access to a top-notch education.
Under the plan approved today, Monroe Public Schools, Airport Community Schools, the Ida Public School District and Mason Consolidated Schools will all receive an additional $112 in per-pupil funding; and Jefferson Schools will receive an additional $56 in per-pupil funding.
The plan now goes to the governor to be signed into law.
"Businesses want to develop in places with the deepest pool of highly skilled and well educated workers, which all starts in the classroom," Ebli said. "Our kids will be competing for jobs against people from all over the world. This investment in our children's future will provide them the tools they need to succeed and help move Michigan forward."
