MONROE – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today applauded the Michigan State Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for awarding a total of $9 million in loans to the Monroe County Drain Commissioner to help improve the water quality of communities in Monroe County.
"This is great news for Monroe County," Ebli said. "These much-needed funds will go a long way in improving the improving the quality of life for the residents of Monroe County, and I'm grateful the DEQ recognized the importance of the loans. By upgrading our water treatment facility, we are protecting the health and safety of our families and children, while also creating jobs for our local workers."
The $9 million in funding will be used to make improvements to the Monroe Metropolitan Water Pollution Control System Wastewater Treatment Plant in the city of Monroe. The subsequent loans are expected to be enough to complete the necessary upgrades to the plant.
"This is a very important project for the city of Monore, and I'm extremely pleased we were able to secure these funds," said Monroe County Drain Commissioner Dan Stefanski. "I'm very grateful the state has these types of loans so essential public works projects can move forward. I want to commend the residents and officials of the city of Monroe, Monroe Charter Township and Frenchtown Charter Township for their commitment to protecting and enhancing our water, and thank the State of Michigan for providing low-interest municipal funding through the SRF program."
