LANSING – State Representative Kate Ebli (D-Monroe) today was named to the Environment Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) by House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Township).
"It is an absolute honor to join my colleagues on this committee," Ebli said. "Our natural resources are what make life in Michigan so special. Our land, air and water are what define us as a state, and we must do all we can to make sure they can be enjoyed for generations to come."
As a member of the Environment Committee, Ebli will help educate Congress and federal agencies on state concerns regarding state and federal natural resources legislation, regulations and policies. The committee also serves as a forum for legislators and staff members to learn about and share information about legislation being considered in other states.
Ebli is a current member of the House Great Lakes and Environment Committee. Ebli previously served as Vice Chair of the House Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources Committee during the 94th Legislature, where she worked to boost the tourism economy, create jobs and safeguard Michigan's Great Lakes and other natural resources.
"Michigan's Great Lakes, wilderness and other natural resources are not only an important part of our history, but they are a vital part of our economy," Ebli said. "Tourism is one of Michigan's three largest industries and a pillar of our economy. Visitors come to Michigan from across the country to enjoy our breathtaking beaches and seemingly endless coastlines, and thousands of tourism jobs rely on our natural resources. Protecting our natural resources will go hand-in-hand with protecting and creating jobs for our workers and boosting our economy."
